Worldwide Communion Sunday

We invite you to join us on Sunday mornings October 5, 2008 as we celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion with Christians around the world.

As you enter the church, you will see a map of the world on display in the narthex. Pushpins will be available so that you can place a marker on the map for any country or countries with special significance for you. We will pray for all of the marked countries during the church service.

The bread used for communion on this Sunday will be a selection of various ethnic breads, again emphasizing the global aspect of World Communion Sunday. Following each worship service, we invite everyone to come stand around the communion table to sample these different breads. We will have plenty of bread on hand for both communion and sampling purposes, so don’t be shy.

Each family in attendance will be given a globe-shaped bank. These banks are to serve as a symbol of our thankfulness and our spirit of giving back to others. Take these banks home and fill them with loose change each day. Encourage all family members to participate in the filling of the banks. Bring the banks back to church on the Sunday before Thanksgiving (November 23rd) and present them during the service. The banks will be emptied and all monies collected will then be given to one of our mission programs.
