For the past few
years, The Method has teamed up with the Sierra Service Project to serve Native
Americans living in poverty conditions on reservations here in the United
States. Our work teams travel to the location and spend a week living in
community with youth from other churches, exploring their relationships with God
and humanity, and work on home-improvement projects for the residents of the
reservation.
This is a
cross-cultural experience open to students entering their freshman year of high
school through those who have just graduated. We raise the funding we need
to cover our expenses through sponsorships and fundraising events throughout the
year. We take sign ups beginning in October of the previous year in order
to reserve our spot with SSP and begin fundraising early.
SSP is a life-changing
experience for students and adult counselors alike. For more information
on the Sierra Service Project, please check out their website:

For
2008 six youth and two councilors, will be
traveling to
Rock Point,
Arizona to aide in the repair and renovations of reservation and low income
housing. It is our belief that by working together to help others, we will
grow closer to one another, learn more about ourselves, and come closer to
God. The Sierra Serve Program is a Christian based organization that helps
to focus our efforts as well as provoke the youth to think spiritually about
their desire to serve others.
The dates of the event itself are July 27-August 2, but this does
not include travel to and from the Rock Point. Planning for travel is currently
being planned.
