A little while ago, someone came to me and told me that they had no idea a particular event was happening. I thought back and tried to remember where we had publicized this event and remembered it'd been in The View.
I suggested that to this person and they said they never really read beyond the article. A person standing near us jumped in to exclaim that while the articles were good (to that I say, thank you!), one had to keep reading below the article to get to all the events, announcements and general happenings of the church.
The two of them wandered off, conversing together apparently about the newsletter among other things. But it got me thinking that maybe we write too much at the top here and folks never move beyond the article. While Pastor Karl and I are flattered that you all enjoy our articles, we hope you’ll get involved in one or more of the things happening in the life of the church.
In a similar vein, we hope your faith will move from just hearing a little bit about God to actually diving into a life with God. We hope your faith becomes a relationship and friendship with the Divine just as you might have a relationship with a dear one in your life. We hope you’ll move from a heady understanding that God loves you to experiencing that love in your heart.
In one of my readings for the program I’m in for Spiritual Direction, I ran across Hebrews 10:25. I typically read from the New Revised Standard Version, but on this day, for whatever reason I popped the Jerusalem Bible off my shelf to read.
“Let us be concerned for each other, to stir a response in love and good works. Do not stay away from the meetings of the community… but encourage each other to go...”
So, here is my encouragement for you to keep reading beyond this top part, dive into the rest of this online newsletter, and find a spot to jump into in the life of this faith community. There are many areas for you to get involved in here at St. Andrew’s and it is our hope that as you connect, grow, and serve, you will also deepen your relationship with God because we know that’s where the abundant life is.
